A multipurpose chemical, resorcinol can be used alone or in combination with other substances.
Compounds and extracts of resorcinol enjoy many industrial uses. Sometimes utilized in tires and lumber composites, many resorcinol-based resins have exceptional adhesive qualities. Moreover, eosin, a red dye that can be extracted from resorcinol, is regularly involved in the manufacture of paper, varnishes, cosmetics, and medicine. Eosin is also utilized as a stain by microscopists interested in increasing the contrast levels in a specimen. Frequently a component of skin care products, resorcinol can be found in sunscreens as well as various anti-fungal creams and ointments. In conjunction with sulfur, resorcinol is applied as a treatment for conditions such as acne, eczema, dermatitis, and dandruff because it helps breakdown hard, rough skin. However, resorcinol products should be used in moderation because the substance is potentially irritating. |
