The Dream

Reflected darkfield microscopy reveals this "poker hand" silicon doodle placed on the CVAX microprocessor by Digital Equipment Corporation chip designers. This microprocessor was the brains behind the Digital MicroVAX 3000 and 6200 series of computers.

This chip was loaned to us by designer Bob Supnik who also told us the story behind the doodle. The hand is holding an inside straight with an ace up the sleeve. To the left of the hand appears the logo: "$... The Dream Is Always The Same", which was the dream of the silicon team to design the first Digital microprocessor to boot VMS on first pass silicon. The ace up the sleeve is Rigel, the next processor in the series.
