Mink Fur

The mink is a semi-aquatic carnivorous mammal related to the weasel. Widely bred on farms for its thick rich brown fur, the mink is native to North America and Europe.

The photomicrograph above illustrates a sampling of mink fur as seen with darkfield illumination. Varying thicknesses of individual hairs are evident in the photomicrograph, which also reveals the different textures characteristic of this fur.
