Llamas are members of the camel family and are found primarily in South America, where they are commonly used as pack animals. The reach an average weight of about 300 pounds and stand about 6 feet high at the head. Fur colors range from white and black to shades of gray, brown, and red, with markings occurring in a number of patterns. The llama hair in the photomicrograph above appears a dark tan to light brown color in natural daylight.
